How it works
Four steps from sign-up
to your first lesson
Apply in 5 minutes
Fill in your profile — name, stations you can teach near, your teaching style and what you specialise in. No CV or cover letter needed.
Pass our ID check
We verify your passport or residence card by email. This usually takes 2–5 business days. Once cleared, you get a ✓ Verified badge and your profile goes live.
Accept bookings on your terms
Students browse your profile and send lesson requests. You accept or decline — no pressure. Our staff then coordinates the meeting place (a nearby café) by email, so you never have to share personal contact details.
Teach, get paid, repeat
Meet your student at the agreed café. The lesson rate is ¥2,600/hour, paid directly by the student in cash or PayPay. SpeakMeet charges teachers nothing — no commission, no subscription.
Who are the students?
Japanese professionals who want real conversation
Our students are working adults — typically 25–45 — looking for face-to-face practice they can't get from apps. They come for business English, interview prep, travel confidence, or just the habit of speaking regularly.
Safety & screening
We screen teachers. We protect them too.
The same system that makes students trust SpeakMeet also protects you as a teacher.
Common questions
Quick answers
Do I need a teaching qualification? +
No formal qualification is required. Being a native English speaker from an English-speaking country is the main requirement. Qualifications like TESOL or CELTA are a bonus and can attract more students, but they are not mandatory.
Can I set my own hours? +
Yes. You set your available time slots in your calendar. Students can only request lessons during those slots. You accept or decline each request individually — there's no obligation to accept every booking.
How do students pay me? +
Students pay you directly at the lesson — ¥2,600 per hour in cash or PayPay. SpeakMeet does not handle or hold your earnings. There is no commission or fee deducted from your pay.
What if a student cancels or doesn't show up? +
Report it through your dashboard. We track no-show history and contact students who repeatedly cancel. We're still working on a formal cancellation policy — for now, communicate through our staff if there's an issue.
How long does approval take? +
Usually 2–5 business days after you submit your ID. We'll email you when your profile goes live. If you haven't heard back within 7 days, email allandelaroche161@gmail.com.
