Do I need a teaching qualification? +
No formal qualification is required. Being a native English speaker is the core requirement. Certifications like TESOL, CELTA, or a degree in education strengthen your profile, but they are not mandatory.
Can I set my own hours? +
Yes, fully. You accept or decline each booking request individually. There is no minimum number of lessons per month and no obligation to accept every request.
How do students pay me? +
Students pay you directly at the lesson — ¥2,600/hour in cash or PayPay. SpeakMeet charges no commission on your lessons.
How long does the approval process take? +
Usually 2–5 business days after you submit your documents. We'll send you an email when your profile goes live.
What documents do I need? +
A photo of your passport or residence card for identity verification, plus a clear face photo. Additional qualifications are optional but strengthen your profile.
Is there a contract or lock-in? +
No contract, no exclusivity, no minimum commitment. Pause or delete your profile at any time from your dashboard.
What happens if a student cancels? +
Cancellation policies are agreed between you and the student. We recommend setting a 24-hour notice policy and stating it clearly at your first lesson.
Can I teach online as well? +
SpeakMeet is currently focused on in-person lessons near train stations. Online support is on our roadmap.
