Who are the students?

Japanese professionals who want real conversation

Our students are working adults — typically 25–45 — looking for face-to-face practice they can't get from apps. They come for business English, interview prep, travel confidence, or just the habit of speaking regularly.

💼
Business EnglishPresentations, email writing, meetings with overseas colleagues.
✈️
Travel & daily lifeBuilding confidence to use English while travelling or in everyday situations.
📝

Safety & screening

We screen teachers. We protect them too.

The same system that makes students trust SpeakMeet also protects you as a teacher.

🪪
ID verification for teachers and studentsEvery teacher submits a passport or residence card. Students register with a verified email. This keeps anonymous bad actors off the platform on both sides.
📧
Staff coordinate the meeting — you never share personal detailsAfter you accept a booking, our staff emails both parties to arrange the venue (a public café near the agreed station). Your phone number, LINE, and home address are never shared.
🏪
Lessons always in public placesFirst lessons and all subsequent ones take place in cafés, libraries, or other public venues near the station you listed. No home visits, no private locations.
🚨
Report anything — we respond within 24 hoursIf a student is rude, a no-show, or makes you uncomfortable, report it. We take it seriously. Repeat offenders are removed from the platform.

Common questions

Quick answers

Do I need a teaching qualification? +

No formal qualification is required. Being a native English speaker from an English-speaking country is the main requirement. Qualifications like TESOL or CELTA are a bonus and can attract more students, but they are not mandatory.

Can I set my own hours? +

Yes. You set your available time slots in your calendar. Students can only request lessons during those slots. You accept or decline each request individually — there's no obligation to accept every booking.

How do students pay me? +

Students pay you directly at the lesson — ¥2,600 per hour in cash or PayPay. SpeakMeet does not handle or hold your earnings. There is no commission or fee deducted from your pay.

What if a student cancels or doesn't show up? +

Report it through your dashboard. We track no-show history and contact students who repeatedly cancel. We're still working on a formal cancellation policy — for now, communicate through our staff if there's an issue.

How long does approval take? +

Usually 2–5 business days after you submit your ID. We'll email you when your profile goes live. If you haven't heard back within 7 days, email allandelaroche161@gmail.com.
